HELLO, BALLROOM DANCERS!!!
I know, I missed you too. It has literally been forEVER. I haven’t seen Matt all this time. It sucks. Like a lot. I’ve got a lot I’m dealing with.
Aaaaaanyway, let’s move onto happier things! SEASON 22!
Isn’t that a fantastic poster?! The Photoshop is real though…it looks like they photographed Keo and Wit separately and then just spliced it together.
Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars premieres this Monday night! To be quite honest, I was fully intending on not watching, as Derek is not doing this season, which I’m actually happy for. He’s got a bunch of projects in the works – most notably, he’ll be starring in Gene Kelly’s role in the Singin’ In the Rain musical on Broadway! That’s not until 2017, though. I’m not sure what it is he’s doing right now, but it must be a big deal.
So again. I wasn’t gonna watch…but KARINA IS BACK ON! And we all know Karina is one of my goddesses.
Plus, I have to take any connection to dance I can.
Yeah, I know I’m late. My bad *hides*
So here’s the cast! I think this picture is so cute and clever.
Cast list, team names, first dance info, and voting numbers after the jump!
Thanks to PureDWTS for the first dance info!
Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas – Paige is 5’4″ and a 21-year-old mixed martial artist. Super pretty and seems very likeable. This partnership seems to have already garnered some excitement. #TeamPowRightintheKisser’s first dance will be the foxtrot to “Ain’t Got Far to Go” by Jess Glynne. 800-868-3410
Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd – he is 6’2″ and the winner of the final cycle of America’s Next Top Model, and has a recurring role on Switched At Birth. He’s also been completely deaf since birth. He is absolutely gorgeous, obviously, and actually has such a sweet smile. It’ll be a challenge for Peta, but they look beautiful together and I think they’re going to be a great match. I definitely see them going far. #RedefiningDance’s first dance will be the cha cha to DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean” (THAT’S ANOTHER SONG I WANT TO DANCE TO). 800-868-3409
Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe – Jodie is 5’6″ and we ALL know her from Full House and now Fuller House! She’s obviously going to have a huge fanbase – I’m just nervous that Keo will be the make or break here. #TeamMoSweet’s first dance will be the tango to “Confident” by Demi Lovato. 800-868-3405
Ginger Zee & Val Chmerkovskiy – Ginger is 5’7″ and is the weather anchor on Good Morning America. Apparently, she’s just had a baby in December! And was diagnosed with narcolepsy at age 21. Not that it matters, but browsing through her Instagram feed, the bombshell look DWTS gave her for the promos actually really works for her. #TeamGinandJuice’s first dance will be the jive to “Move” from the Dreamgirls soundtrack. 800-868-3404
Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess – he is 5’10”, a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Apparently known for an endzone dance called “The Billy Biggle Wiggle”. #TeamBoomin’s first dance will be the quickstep to “Bad Man” by Pitbull. 800-868-3401
Marla Maples & Tony Dovolani – she is 5’8″ and most known for being Donald Trump’s second wife -_- looks like she’s been friends with Tony for a long time and he finally convinced her to do the show. 52 years old and is a total stunner. #TeamMarTony’s first dance will be the quickstep to “Sparkling Diamonds” from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. 800-868-3407
Mischa Barton & Artem Chigvintsev – she is 5’9″, an actress from the 00’s. She’s had a rough go of it for almost a decade and hasn’t done much acting since 2006, so hopefully this will be a good comeback for her. Her and Artem seem to be a really nice pair though. #TeamBlackVelvet’s first dance will be the tango to “In the Night” by The Weeknd. 800-868-3408
Von Miller & Witney Carson – this is a large fellow, at 6’3″, linebacker for the Denver Broncos, and the reigning Super Bowl MVP, yaaaaasssss. From what I hear, he has a really colorful personality like Antonio and really, really loves chickens – his college degree is in poultry science and he has a chicken tattoo. I’m confused, but he’s a strapping fellow and looks like fun. #TeamBlondeMiller’s first dance will be the foxtrot to “My House” by Flo Rida. 800-868-3411
Kim Fields & Sasha Farber – YAY! Sasha’s a pro again! Anyway. Kim is five feet tall and I know her as Tootie from The Facts of Life. Right now, she’s on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. They’re gonna be fun to watch, I think. #TeamKimSha’s first dance will be the cha cha to “Sax” by Fleur East. 800-868-3406
Doug Flutie & Karina Smirnoff – 5’10” Doug is the third NFL player in the lineup, a Hall of Famer, and has been touted a sentimental favorite for his career and all the charity work he does for autism. #TeamKutie’s first dance will be the foxtrot to “Sweet Caroline (Good Times Never Seemed So Good)” by Neil Diamond. 800-868-3402
Geraldo Rivera & Edyta Sliwinska – YES, the OG Edyta Sliwinska is back! Geraldo is a 5’9″ talk show host/reporter/author. They look really adorable thus far, all smiles. Their first dance will be the cha cha to “Treasure” by Bruno Mars. 800-868-3403
Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold – Wanya’s around 5’10” and a member of the legendary Boyz II Men. And from what I’ve seen, this partnership has a lot of people really excited because they’re getting along great and having a lot of fun. #TeamYayZee’s first dance will be the cha cha to “Motown Philly” from…guess who? Boyz II Men. 800-868-3412
This cast is SO stacked! Lots of talent, charisma, personality.
OOH! Now the troupe. This is interesting.
Left to right:
Shannon Holtzapffel – oh wow, this dude is hottttt. Seems to be mostly ballet and pop/hip-hop trained – he’s been a backup dancer for tons of superstar singers. According to his biography, he could moonwalk before he could actually walk.
Jenna Johnson – we all know her. She is a career ballroom dancer with cross training in contemporary, hip-hop, tap, etc.
Kirill Kulish – now, THIS one I’m really interested in. I remember he was under 21 national Latin champion with Nino Dzeladze. As a kid, he (and the 2 other boys sharing the role) won a Tony award for his starring role in Billy Elliot: The Musical. He seems to be really interested in choreography and emulating Derek’s career. He also used to dance with Jenna!
Dennis Jauch – German born and raised, it’s said he’s a “natural born entertainer”. Seems he’s won a lot of ballroom titles, but I couldn’t find evidence of that, though he was in the German national top 5. He also won the German version of So You Think You Can Dance. Looks like he’s really into the “artistic director” side of things.
Hayley Erbert – beautiful girl, but a contemporary dancer with a crash course in ballroom. I’m guessing she got to DWTS from her stint on the Move: Live on Tour with Derek and Julianne. She was in season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance.
Alan Bersten – obviously has been with the troupe a few seasons, definitely a trained ballroom dancer. He was on season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance, and he allegedly helped Witney with choreography during her winning season with Alfonso.
So this is a really diversely talented troupe. I’m just curious as to what they’re trying to do with the troupe (more ballroom or more hip hop or more jazz, etc). It looks like they’re not really trying to stay in the ballroom vein, which is sad.
I guess we’ll see! Should be fun to watch.
